How the playoff format works
Full guide- 12 teams reach the postseason, six from each league.
- Seeds 1 and 2 go to the two division winners with the best records. They skip the Wild Card Series.
- Seed 3 goes to the remaining division winner, even if a Wild Card team has a better record.
- Seeds 4 to 6 go to the three Wild Card teams, in order of record.
- Ties are broken by a formula that starts with head-to-head record. MLB no longer plays tiebreaker games.
